This animation, created for the NUA film series, explores some of the alternative historical theories surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus. Visually, it leans into a Terry Gilliam–style cutout approach that's playful, surreal and knowingly absurd in all the right ways.
We sourced and dissected renaissance paintings and historical artwork, chopping and reassembling them into unexpected, often ridiculous scenarios to mirror the theories being described. Taking something serious and treating it with intentionally crude animation was part of the fun and part of the point.
A light-hearted interlude in a thoughtful episode, and a perfect example of how humour, history and motion design can meet in exactly the right way.
