This film was created as part of the wider NUA film series, but director Greg Fromholz wanted to make David’s Story stand apart as something more emotionally intimate with a distinct visual style worthy of the weight of the story.
David lived through extraordinary trauma. He survived several bomb blasts during the Troubles in Northern Ireland and later lost both his wife and daughter in a tragic car accident. While in a coma, he experienced what he describes as an overwhelming encounter with love and peace. It was a moment that transformed his faith and his understanding of Jesus’ presence in suffering.
We chose a hand-drawn, photorealistic visual style. With minimal character animation, the camera itself became the storyteller - slow and cinematic in pacing, allowing the narration to breathe. We also used selective typographic framing where appropriate, both for clarity and to help meet the demanding turnaround.
A heavy yet hopeful piece. This one needed sensitivity, restraint and care.
